The Education Officers:

The Catholic Education Office works closely with TAEA – the Tasmanian Aboriginal Education Association to ensure all Aboriginal students are supported to achieve their potential.

All Catholic schools have an Aboriginal Perspectives Key Teacher (APKT) whose role is to support teachers to implement Aboriginal cultural perspectives learning sequences in their classes. Professional development is provided for AKPT’s to enable them to support staff to have a respectful and appropriate understanding of Aboriginal perspectives.

Many Catholic secondary colleges have an Aboriginal Student Support Teacher (ASST) whose role is to support all Aboriginal students in their school. The ASST assists Aboriginal students access appropriate programs provided by the school and other agencies in consultation with parents and caregivers.
