History:
Holy Rosary School opened on 31st January 1961 with an enrolment of 37 students. Since 1961, there have been many building developments to cater for the increasing enrolments and educational needs of the students. In 1986 the Holy Rosary Kindergarten was opened and now includes two kindergarten classes. In 2000 the refurbishment of the Dominican and the Nowlan Wings was completed. In 2005 the St Bernard's Hall Multi-purpose facility and refurbished GLA's was completed.
Location:
Holy Rosary School is located in the City of Glenorchy Municipality in the Northern Suburbs of Hobart. The suburb of Claremont extends from Mt. Faulkner to the shores of the Derwent River. The school site is in central Claremont.
Transport:
Students travel to Holy Rosary School by Metro Bus and Millingtons Bus Service (private contractor). The school is within safe walking distance in Claremont and is easily accessed by car from the Brooker Highway.
Special Features/Programs:
The Holy Rosary School curriculum covers all eight Key Learning Areas. The Religious Education programme includes Sacramental preparation for Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation in conjunction with St. Bernard's Parish. Pastoral care of all in the school community is a special feature. The Rainbows programme and counselling for those in need is available. In the classrooms there is a strong focus on using computers as learning tools. The Holy Rosary 'Jump Rope for Heart' skipping team, daily PE, a Perceptual Motor Programme, football, netball, soccer and hockey are some of the avenues for students to enjoy their recreation. The school owns its own bus fitted with seatbelts to supplement the outdoor education and sporting programs the school offers. The school choir performs locally and in eisteddfods. A Landcare program operates in the school grounds, including the surrounds of the Abbotsfield Rivulet.
